On Monday 20 March 2017, at our monthly meeting, we had Travis McDowell, Safety Assessment Office from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. We had a really great time with Travis, who told us what his job entailed and he also talked about the new legislation covering smoke detectors. The weather was not kind to us, but we had 9 hardy souls there, who I am sure enjoyed Travis’s talk. Travis’s job as a Safety Assessment Officer, entails him going in to buildings and checking on the maintenance of fire protection. These will include sprinklers, fire hoses and fire extinguishers. The Safety Assessment Officer also goes into residential properties, where they investigate overcrowding and the number of smoke detectors in the house. For those persons who do not comply can be put before the court.
